I found the play outrageous and funny at the same time. I laughed, I enjoyed. The actors were laudatory. This is certainly a credit to the RTE. Go see it!!!

This is one of the funniest plays I've seen in a long time! We were on vacation in SJ and stumbled onto the Renegade Experimental Theater doing a premier of a young playwright from the east coast, Lia Romeo. The dialogue is smart and quick, and the story quite unexpected. Total enjoyment, and a great evening's entertainment. We highly recommend it. Collapse

An interesting look at love, romance, marriage, and what it really takes to be happy. This modern farce had a healthy portion of melodrama, over the top affected and stereotypical performances, but for the most part they worked well with the quick wit and pace of the script. Excellent technical elements including fantastic costuming, props, and set, really showed off the actors who in turn showed off the writing. A nice collaborative ensemble effort worthy of Renegade's high standard for presenting an "alternative voice". Plenty of smirks and chuckles throughout. Collapse

I found “The Shape of Things” to be a well organized production; it was quite obvious to me that a lot of thought had been put into the execution of the script. I’d say talented actors and good directing are the main reason why I liked this performance. Even with a simple set, it was possible to become completely immersed in the world of the play. I feel the use of a simple set really allowed you to use your imagination in creating the scene, rather than be overly elaborate and force one to imagine a specific setting. The creation of the world of the play was also greatly aided by a well assembled soundtrack accompanying the performance. The script and story line was also quite entertaining, and ends with a nice twist. Without spoiling anything, this play is quite engaging and you may find yourself feeling as if you are a part of the performance! This really enhanced my experience, and I would recommend this production of “The Shape of Things.” Collapse

The play the "Shape of Things" portraying what a person is willing to do for a loved one. Adam and Evelyn are the main characters that protray this situation. Adam has no limits to when it comes to whatever "suggestions" evelyn will give him. Whether it be to change his hair or to get plastic surgery. Adam is willing to do it because he has never had the attention of any girl. He does all this for Evelyn. Philip is Adam's roomate who comes off as a jerk, but in the end we see him break of his shell and show his sensative side. The conclusion was definetly a big turning point in the play. Also my favorite part because it shows the actual changes a person is willing to make for another. I definetly loved the conlcusion to this play. It tied all my different points of view on what could happen into one schocking revelation. This play was great. Collapse

the shape of things, produced and directed by Kathleen was an excellent play that took real-life situations and twisted them into excitement, drama and an adventure. The actors overall, acted with excellence and there was no moment i was able to doze off. The use of the pictures brought me into the world and made me believe, that i too was part of the cast. Although Adam and Evelyn's relationship was great due to certain circumstances the characters began to change and adam found that he was his own antigonist. Without ruining the play i would say that each character experienced a life changing situation that almost everybody could relate too. In closing this play was great, although the pictures were confusing, the story- line, plot, lighting and use of blocking was on point. I learned so much about life and has inspired me to think of how i am going to face situations from now on. Congrats cast and crew. Collapse

The play, The Shape of Things, written by Neil Labute and directed by Kathleen Normington, was an attention-grabbing story that surprised the entire audience in the end. The actors of this play did a very good job in portraying their character. The story was very captive, especially toward the beginning and how the main characters met. The two main characters, Adam and Evelyn, had a happy relationship, Adam had never gotten so much attention from a girl, which is why he would change everything Evelyn suggested, whether it was physical or drastic. Many things surprised me toward the end. The character that played Adam’s roommate, Phillip was very interesting to me. He came off as a stubborn and insensitive male, but toward the end he ended up coming off as the good guy who got hurt toward the end. All in all, even if the end was harsh and drastic, it was my favorite part of the play because I learned a new meaning to art Collapse
