It's the summer of 1942, Jay and Arty's mother has just passed away, and their father has left them in the care of their old, strict grandmother. Unfamiliar with their father's family and quickly discovering why the boys find themselves amid an array of dysfunctional relationships between their bizarre aunts, gangster uncle, and hardhearted grandmother. Humorous and poignant, this Pulitzer Prize-winning play explores both the intentional, and unintentional, lessons learned by these two brothers as they navigate their new life in Yonkers.

The whole aura of 1968 was just perfect. Loved the costumes, dancing, and singing. I only wish I had seen it earlier, so I could find time to go back again.

I went to see this fascinating play on Saturday, March 4nd, and found myself drawn into the performance. All the actors, especially the young man playing Moritz, did a wonderful job portraying life in a resticted society. It was gut-wrenching at times and at others, bitterly cruel. The coldness with which Moritz's death was handled by his peers was especially poignant. My feelings for the character Melchior were quite conflicted. A wonderful evening that made me ponder things long after the play was over. Collapse
