Spindrift School of Performing Arts presents an all youth production of Oliver! The Musical! Oliver Twist is a young boy who lives in a workhouse with other orphaned boys. When Oliver disrupts a meal by asking for more, he is sold to a local undertaker and his family. They treat Oliver horribly and make him sleep under the coffins. Oliver escapes and runs off to Paddington Green, where he quickly befriends another young boy, the Artful Dodger. Oliver soon realizes that he is in for more adventures (and troubles)!

This production was fabulous! The Tribune review sounded a bit pollyanna-ish, but these kids deliver! From the show-stopping standards (As Long As He Needs Me, Consider Yourself, et al.) to moments had by every single member of the cast - Pauper to Gent - the show was fully realized and joyous! Kudos to the director, designers, and cast. These kids probably could have handled more challenging dance steps given their energy and obvious connection to the material, but their consistent, thoughful characters made the movement crisp and delightful. The future bodes well for this acting and directing crew whose talent and artistic values are a cut above most local performing arts schools. Collapse
