Arts on Fire XII
April 25-May 31, 2008
Sanchez Art Center will host its signature event of the year, the twelfth annual Arts on Fire gala reception Friday, April 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. This event has become a Pacifica tradition that promises an evening of art, music, entertainment, and treats for the entire community. All events are free and open to the public.
The juried Arts on Fire XII exhibition, with artists drawn from all over California, will be on display through May 31, with galleries open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
Juror Scott Shields selected 45 pieces out of 231 entries submitted by 84 artists. Thirty-three artists are represented in the exhibition. Shields is the chief curator of the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento and author of "Artists at Continent's End: the Monterey Peninsula Art Colony, 1875-1907." He will give a Curator's Talk on Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at Sanchez Art Center.
Arts on Fire XII will fill both the Main and West Wing Galleries, while the East Wing Gallery will present an exhibition by Alexandra Ostroff and Zachary Williams, the award winners selected last year by Peter Selz, juror for the 2007 Arts on Fire XI.
The gala opening night spectacular will feature the popular Asia & Arabesque Belly Dance troupe, the Temple of Poi, and the Terra Nova High School Drumline and Jazz Band under the direction of Michael Pens. The reception will feature music by Vivace, an eclectic mix of classical, Brazilian, and jazz performed by Pacifican Rob Hughes on flute and saxophone and Michael Schillaci of San Francisco playing acoustic and steel string guitar. These spectacular performances will take place throughout the evening, and families with children are especially encouraged to join in the activities.

Extremely enjoyed the show. Was impressed by the amount of time and effort put into the show. Amazed at the professionalism and what can be done with photographs.

With 64 Artists, refreshments, live music, art auction and art demonstrations, this is one of the more action-packed and fun Open Studio events in the Bay Area. Although it is billed as "Pacifica Open Studios", artists from around the peninsula and bay also set up in the spacious galleries so there is plenty of variety and beautiful art for every budget. This Open Studios is the ideal size with lots to see but not an overwhelming number of artists so that it wears you out trying to see them all. Last year's event was a huge success, and this year promises to be even better. There is lots of parking at the Center and when things get really hopping you can find parking on Linda Mar Blvd. On Saturday and Sunday Open Studios are free and open to the public from 11am to 5pm. The Preview Gala on Friday, from 7pm - 9pm, costs $25 and is a benefit for the Sanchez Art Center. Collapse
