    His legacy is regarded as an "American Institution" by music connoisseurs around the world, but to those who knew him he was just the affable and modest "Count" Basie. In 1936 a young Count Basie leapt into the middle of the Big Band era as leader of his own Kansas City band. Today's Count Basie Orchestra is made up of nineteen superb musicians - most of whom Basie has selected himself. The original Count Basie sound and feel is as alive today as it was 70 years ago!
