Add Review/CommentSight, Sound and The Dollar Sign-Day Two - These not-to-miss presentations from industry leaders expose filmmakers and film fans to the people and technologies that aid the creation and delivery of Maverick, independent and international cinema. As Chris Gore, author of The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide has stated: “This festival is one that sets the trends and is actually ahead of the trends. Other festivals are copying Cinequest; I see it all the time…You find the future of film at Cinequest.” Empower yourself via exposure to cutting-edge technologies as well as insight and how-to knowledge from leading film professionals.
- PART I: Inside Imageworks – A Conversation with Joanna Burish - Cinequest is excited to present this absolutely extraordinary opportunity to understand the behind-the-scenes processes of how a company like Imageworks Entertainment, which is involved in both production and distribution, operates and makes decisions. This presentation is a chance to understand what they look for in potential products to produce as well as represent for distribution. Acquisitions and development executive Joanna Burish will be joined on the stage with one of her business associates from a partner company. Gain insight on what is required of a film to be picked up for distribution and how companies like Imageworks partners with a larger distribution entity such as Lionsgate or Regent Entertainment. This is a not-to-miss event for anyone with a film in the can or a project looking for funding. Joanna Burish is an acquisitions/sales and development executive for Imageworks Entertainment. A successful businesswoman with a lifelong passion for the performing arts, Joanna’s combination of business smarts and artistic sensibilities has enabled her to have a rich and diverse production background in film, television and music. In 1998, she launched a music production company with studios in Los Angeles and New York dedicated to discovering and integrating indie talent into mainstream venues. Moderator: Jens Michael Hussey, Director, Public Relations, Cinequest.
- PART II: Cinequest Maverick Spirit Event – A Conversation with Academy Award® Winner Bobby Moresco - Producer and writer Bobby Moresco is one of the most dynamic individuals in the film business today. Following enormous success with his Academy Award® winning films Million Dollar Baby and Crash, Moresco Productions is aggressively working on a variety of projects in film and television. This conversation will provide a glimpse into the workings of one of the most exciting production companies in the business. Moresco is joined on the stage with producing partner Mark Harris. Harris’s remarkable career has spanned several decades and involves working in the business from a variety of capacities. His lengthy and impressive resume includes projects with the top names in the business, and he has developed and managed top talent organizations. Don’t miss this exciting conversation with two powerhouse names in the business.
- PART III: Digital Cinematography – Demystifying a Technological Diversity - High definition digital cameras and camcorders are proliferating as major regions of the world transition to HDTV broadcasting and as high resolution digital acquisition offers an alternate to motion picture film origination. There is now a broad hierarchy of HD acquisition systems that are defined by a diversity of image format sizes (with associated impact on optical performance), camera imager technologies, camera digital processing and an ever-widening range of digital image recording technologies. Digital 4K cameras promise imaging beyond HD. Pricing of these digital systems range from less than $1,000 to north of $200,000. This seminar will describe the breadth of contemporary high-resolution digital cinematography systems and all that distinguishes one flavor of HD from another.
Autism: The Musical - Can a group of autistic kids really pull off a live musical? Inspiring, joyful and heartwarming are not typical terms associated with autism. But when a group of kids, led by a determined teacher and director, who is also a parent to one of the kids, embark on a journey to put on a full-length musical play, all bets are off.
Around the Bay - The distance between us and those we love is often measured by silence. In that special darkness, we search for a bridge over which we can connect. Wyatt seems to possess every material need. But his life is in shambles and he has no clue how to fix it. His girlfriend, Noreen, fed up with his stony indifference toward her and his five-year old son, Noah, suddenly leaves, shattering Wyatt’s mirrored imagery of the “good life” into kaleidoscopic shards...
Glory Boy Days - The pain and ecstasy of being young glow like ember in Glory Boy Days, one of the most extraordinary debuts at Cinequest. On the day he turns twenty-one, Lando takes stock of his life so far and looks ahead at what the future holds for him. He may be worried about going to college and standing up to his stepfather, but to his friends finding a good party is the concern of the day...-
