From one of Hollywood’s most sought after screenwriters comes a thrilling and original adventure story of two young men on an impossible mission.

David knew little of his grandparents’ experience in Leningrad during World War II. What he did know was that his grandfather, the knife fighter, had killed two Germans before he turned 18. Determined to record their experience, he visits his grandparents in Florida. His grandmother won’t talk about it, but his grandfather reluctantly consents and tells his story. When David hounds him for more details, his grandfather, exasperated, finally says to his grandson: “You’re a writer. Make it up.” And so he does. What follows is City of Thieves, a remarkable and moving story of lives that were changed during the infamously devastating siege of Leningrad.

David Benioff adapted his first novel, The 25th Hour, into the feature film directed by Spike Lee and wrote the screenplay adaptation of The Kite Runner. His short story collection, When the Nines Roll Over, received critical acclaim. He lives in Los Angeles and New York with his wife, the actress Amanda Peet.
