    Front Page Woman (1935)

    Ellen Garfield (Bette Davis) refuses to marry fellow reporter Curt Devlin (George Brent) until he admits she is as good at her craft as any man. The two work for rival newspapers, and their ongoing efforts to better each other eventually leads to Ellen getting fired when Curt tricks her into misreporting the verdict of a murder trial. The tables are turned when she scoops him by getting the real perpetrator, Inez Cordoza (Wini Shaw), to confess to the crime. Forced to admit Ellen is a good reporter, he finally wins her hand.

    Special Agent (1935)

    Newspaperman Bill Bradford (George Brent) becomes a special agent for the tax service trying to end the career of racketeer Nick Carston (Ricardo Cortez). Julie Gardner (Bette Davis) is Carston's bookkeeper. Bradford enters Carston's organization and Julie cooperates with him to land Carston in jail. An informer squeals on them. Julie is kidnapped by Carston's henchmen as she is about to testify.
