The Guild Chorus presents Rachmaninoff's Vespers, a passionate spiritual synthesis of dazzling harmonies and the traditional Byzantine chants of the Russian Orthodox Church. As required by church tradition, the music is sung by unaccompanied voices. The Guild Singers perform the piece in the original Slavonic. At 7:30 there is a free preview lecture by Elena Sharkova, Assistant Professor of Music & Choral Activities at SJSU. Professor Sharkova was born & raised in St. Petersburg, Russia, where she received her Master's Degree in choral conducting.
