Michael Rubin, Author
Commonwealth Club - Silicon Valley
May 7, 2008
During the making of Empire Strikes Back, George Lucas launched a secret research project that would go on to impact key media tools for editing, audio, video games and computer graphics. What began as a revolutionary notion about the democratization of cinema in the late 1960s from radicals like George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola continues to influence our experience of the personal computer today. Be present as industry guru Michael Rubin chronicles the intermingling of indie filmmaking and technology, and connects the dots from Star Wars to Web 2.0.

What an awesome person to meet and hear. How many people - much less women - can one name who has headed as public a company as HP, and who has been in the public eye, under heavy criticism, and given up so much in life to lead with a strong hand? Ah, women of the world, take note, and lead through the criticisms, the male-dominated world of the Board Rooms, and corporations. Take charge. Carly is, and was, definitely a woman with a vision. I am looking forward to learning from her! Collapse

George Lakoff is an expert on decoding political language, and a clear and engaging speaker. You're guaranteed to learn something important from his talks. "Freedom" is going to continue to be one of the hot topics in American political discourse. Progressives need to learn how to talk about freedom in ways that express effectively what WE mean when WE use that word. Collapse
