Pollo and Curry are best friends. When they fail their high school exams, they deflect the wrath of their families by claiming that Curry (an adopted Indian boy) is suffering from an identity crisis and needs to travel to India (in the company of his best buddy) to discover his roots.

At first glance India is not what they expected. It's dirty and poor, they are quickly robbed of all their possessions. Curry is taken for a native and gets arrested. Pollo gets sick and falls for Chiara, the Italian doctor employed by Doctors Without Borders who takes him under her wing. When the friends are reunited they accompany Chiara back to the desert town where she works as a volunteer. There all three lives start to turn around.
