Though a fan of the show and an audience member to many-a Tuna production, I LOVED Dragon's take. What wonderful actors! Tom Gough is steady and hilarious as usual, and fresh-face Daniel Mitchell is a breath of air with distinctively different characters in each scene. Vocally and physically, Mitchell shines. The two men together play off each other well and I left having experienced 2 hours of pure laughter and joy.
For "Jason's" post about this show being cliche --ugh....Jason...that's the point of the show -- IT"S SATIRE!!! It's not supposed to be a natural show. It's a show written by Texas citizens with the whole purpose of making other Texans laugh at their lives and force them to take a closer look at the silly things they take so seriously. Your loss!!! Everyone else's gain! You'll enjoy it!

The acting in this production was thoroughly engaging and at times inspired. Unfortunately, the writing/material was completely cliché. We all know that rural Texans support the KKK, are relatively uneducated, love their dogs, ban books, burn records, want nothing more than to become cheerleaders, and are overly religious. Nothing insightful or particularly inspired. My date and I wound up departing during the intermission - life is too short for mediocre theater.

For an evening of laughter, Greater Tuna can't be beat. From the amusing and credible transformation of the duo of actors into a cast of many, this play keeps your interest and your funny bone peaked...

What do you get when you take two talented actors, an intiamte Theater and a twenty year old play filled with more laughs than a Monty Python Marathon? A perfect opening season at the Dragon Theater. "Greater Tuna", a play about small town life, has found it's way to the Bay Area to meet up with some good friends and make some new ones along the way. The play is set in the little town of Tuna, Texas and all of the characters young or old, man or woman, or just plane old crazy are played diligently by Tom Gough and Daniel Mitchell. The two actors have such teriffic chemestry that you can practically feel the energy emulating from their busy minds and bodies. Their appreciation for their craft, their love for the play and their complete dedication to each and every character shines through both of them like beams of light. For those of you who have never seen this show before now is the perfect time. And if you have ever lived in a small town...well...you'll see.

I know that many people have seen Tuna in one incarnation or another, but this was my first time seeing the show, suprisingly enough. This show is a perfect marriage of venue (I can't imagine it in a larger space) and cast to bring a wonderfully realized, hysterically funny night of theatre. Tom Gough and Dan Mitchell are incredibly versatile actors and this show maximizes their versatility to the audience's benefit. Mitchell's cheerleader and Gough's frustrated housewife were standouts for me. What I didn't know about the show was that it actually also has a bit of a darkside...something I didn't expect but helped balance out the "guilty pleasure" that is Tuna. These moments complimented the show enourmously and were staged in very creative ways. But at its heart Tuna is a good-hearted romp, with the occassional flavor of more thought provoking themes. Ultimately, this Tuna is a chance to see two great actors giving it their all in a wonderfully funny night.
