The San Jose Cambodian Buddhist Society, the Cambodian American Resource Agency, the Santa Clara County Cambodian Women Association, Khmer Cultural Dance Group, Apsara San Jose Dance Company, and the Cambodian School proudly present the Annual Cambodian New Year Festival 2004 San Jose, Bay Area, Northern California. The cultural diversity in the Bay Area makes it one of the best places to live in the world. Cambodian-Americans are certainly significant pieces of that cultural tapestry. The preservation of the Cambodian culture is, therefore, vital. It is paramount not only to the collective community, but also to the Cambodian community, and the individual Cambodians themselves. The New Year provides a very uniquely important venue for Cambodian-Americans to demonstrate and celebrate their culture. It is also a time for friends and families to come together in meaningful ways. Most importantly, it reaffirms, and many times, strengthens a sense of who we are as Cambodians—our cultural identity. Without that identity intact, Cambodians will no longer be able to contribute to the diversity at large, and will lose a significant part of themselves. In short, the Cambodian New Year celebration is extremely important, and in many levels.
