Antsy McClain and The Trailer Park Troubadours
Broadway Entertainment, LLC/Fox Theatre
July 25, 2008
Antsy McClain and The Trailer Park Troubadours are quintessential Americana, but not in the musical genre kind of way. Oh no, McClain is Americana in the reared-in-a-trailer-park-by-a-truck-driving-father and Avon-selling-mother kind of way. Like a surreal Norman Rockwell painting come to life, McClain is the embodiment of the small-town, blue-collar life he experienced growing up in a little Kentucky trailer park called Pine View Heights. The characters and characteristics he witnessed in Pine View Heights made an indelible impression on the young artist in training. He grew into a first-rate songwriter, incredible visual artist and insightful humorist. He was also hit with a touch of the mad genius.
McClain stamped every aspect of Trailercana with his unique vision. Not only did he write all the songs on the record, he also produced it, did the artwork and graphic design on both the album and the band's website. He infused the album with the rootsy, muscular blend of rock and roll that has become his trademark. McClain calls the music "folkabilly," and his live shows with the Troubadours are a unique mix of masterful musicianship and self-deprecating humor.

This was the first night for new drummer Craig Manrique. Craig beat out a night of dynamic thumping energy to a very delighted crowd.

I listened "Corazon al sur" disc and I think it is wonderful. They made a very interesting version of "El corazon al sur" and with a very cute musicalization and a very warm voice by Claudio Ortega.

Enjoyed the show and Ledward and Mike's aloha. They are two wonderful entertainers and were friendly during the autograph signing of their CD. Enjoyed the slack key guitar, 12 string guitar, ukulele, beautiful voices, great falsetto singing (sometimes like yodelling) and on stage bantering. My first time to hear them live. The dancers were graceful and the venue was lovely. Congratulations and mahalo to all who made the show possible. As I looked at the audience I could see that I was not the only person transported and inspired by the music. The question I forgot to ask: What is the setting of the CD cover "Force of Nature?"
