Add Review/CommentBased on her forthcoming book, The Distinctive City, Dr. Markusen demonstrates how US cities are pursuing distinctive production and consumption portfolios as a way of home-growing, attracting, and retaining companies and skilled workers. Creating distinctiveness in cities is sometimes a double-edged sword as specializations sometimes constrains diversification into new activities. Markusen will compare the San Jose area with other metro regions with special emphasis on science, engineering, environmental, and cultural sectors.
