    Many languages and musical traditions merge into an exotic, dreamlike sound when Rupa & The April Fishes performs. The group’s music echoes French chanson, Argentinean tango, Gypsy swing, American folk, Latin cumbia and Indian ragas. Their lovely pastiche starts with singer/songwriter/doctor Rupa Marya, a Bay Area native who grew up in Punjab, India, and later an Arab neighborhood in Aix-en-Provence, France. Her lyrics – in French, Spanish, English and Hindi -- suggest a world without borders.
