Northside Theatre Company presents its 26th annual production of this holiday event. This excellent stage adaptation of the Dickens’ classic captures all the power, humor and warmth this ageless tale has to offer. It is a great Christmas present for the entire family. This is the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a lonely miser, who, through the help of spirits and visions from his past, present and future, finds a second chance to become a loving, generous, kind human being.

Great storyline and great acting by all! A combination of humor mixed in with a little family drama in a cozy theatre setting. I would highly recommend seeing this show.

A sophisticated comedy sprinkled with Steve Martin's zane, staged quite well! A comedy that actually gets lots of laughs instead of just thinking it should. In this cast with no weak links, naming standouts is almost unfair. But traditionally it's okay, so standouts include Ross Harkness (Gaston), Lucinda Dobinson (Germaine), Jason Salazar (Sagot), and Rebecca Wallace in triplicate. Angie Higgins deftly directs a lighter take on the brilliant Martin script, and ensures enough depth and tone that can make you think and tug on a dramatic string or two... If you want to let it. But you can just sit there and laugh. Alot. Easily the best that this patron has seen at Northside, and one of the best in the area this year. Collapse

This is a production for those who dare to have humor and for those that want to be entertained. Not one second went by where I lost my attention to the cast. Each actor allowed him/herself to fall into character. The pace was perfect and all facets that make theatre top notch was there. From the directing, to the costume, to the lighting to the organization--I dont think I have seen a better play in years. Collapse

Having seen other productions of Picasso at various Bay Area theatres, having read the play, and being a huge fan of Steve Martin's work, I had high expectations for Northside's production and I was not disappointed. The cast was top notch and well assigned. Martin's script is fast-paced and witty and the cast was up to the task, keeping a brisk pace without stumbling over their words. I fully intend on going back to Northside with some other friends to experience this production again. Collapse

This is a great play. Bizarre, surreal, witty, deep, just goofy. The cast is certainly having fun, and except for the occasional pacing issue (an hour and 35 minutes with no intermission is tough)... Expand
This is a great play. Bizarre, surreal, witty, deep, just goofy. The cast is certainly having fun, and except for the occasional pacing issue (an hour and 35 minutes with no intermission is tough) which are likely to improve with the run and a visual joke here and there that was just trying too hard, this is a solid play. What stuck me most was that having seen, read and even auditioned for this play, several of these characters were interpretations that never even crossed my mind. This is a good thing. This was very much a production outside the box and in the spirit of the conversations the characters have on genius and creativity. You will recognize a large portion of this young but vetern cast and that's always fun, but you should keep an eye out for some of the less well know actors in things to come. Special Kudos to the tight costume design & lighting design. The details made a huge difference, and the little surprises were fun in the initimate space. Collapse

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is one of Edward Albee's masterpieces and a classic of the contemporary American theater. In spite of this, I had only seen the movie version prior to my trip to Northside Theater Company. I am now a devoted fan of both the play and of the theater company. The production is worthy of a major venue and the actors do themselves and playwright Albee proud. Tom Amon's George is a hand grenade wrapped in soft felt. The neighbors probably think he is charming, but his claws and teeth are sharp and tinged with poison. Sarah S. David as Martha manages to navigate the complexities of the character skillfully and without losing sight of Martha's vulnerability and humanity. She is raw, occasionally cruel, and always sexual, but she is also very real. Richard Orlando's set embraces the stage and the action like a comfortable glove. All-in-all, this is a production that shouldn't be missed. Collapse

I saw the initial staged reading and talk back session a few months ago and really enjoyed the actors (some of them return for the actual full production) as well as the playwright's vision. Northside always has amazing sets, and lights, and does such an amazing job with creating a real atmosphere and this play has Northside written all over it. It is eerie, and eccentric, but moving, and just a great piece that will get great treatment at this theatre. Collapse

I saw the staged-reading of this new play last Monday night and it was funny, tragic and haunting. It's a Greek Tragedy set in the swamps of Florida - revolving around the aftermath of a terrible hurricane. The events in the play are similar to what happened in New Orleans with Hurricane Katrina. The playwright spoke after the reading and said he based the events on the real hurricane that devastated parts of Florida in 1928. I'm really looking forward to seeing the full production. It will run the month of October - and will be the perfect Halloween show. The characters in the play are all richly drawn and the story is full of twists and turns. My favorite character is "Sisser" - morbidly obsese and insane - who sits on the porch eating Little Debbie snack cakes. All the characters are fascinating and unique and there's a shocking surprise at the end of Act 1. There's also a gay love story in the play which should be exciting to watch in the full production. What a great new play! Collapse
