One of Broadway's brightest comedy hits, this wildly funny spoof of avant-garde drama makes high comedy of the nagging indignities which flesh is heir to. This bizarre and hilarious example of theatre of the absurd is a fun look at a love triangle like you've never seen. When the play begins there is Harry Berlin who has sunk low. He has no future except to jump from a bridge. Enter Milt Manville, a picture of prosperity who is all sympathy. But LUV has ample place in its bosom for more than one miserable fellow. Milt is also full of frustration, for his wife won't release him and let him marry the girl he loves. Milt's wife, Ellen appears and it is clear that she, too, is torn by anguish. A triangle matched in misery. And then Milt has had an inspiration. Why not bring Ellen and Harry together and thus win the freedom to marry the other girl? And then there is this sandbox on stage? Truly a bizarre and fun piece reminiscent of Ionesco's work.

The Woman in Black is a wonderful show. It's genuinely creepy and had me on a low-level adrenaline kick for a good half-hour after I left. There are moments of comedy, especially near the start, but they soon fade away into a constant gloom. The Northside Theater Company does as wonderful a job as ever, but I expect no less from this class act. Only two more nights left, but if you can, I recommend you go! Collapse

Yes I was the audience member in the back who was gasping & hiding under my jacket! Try to go, there are only a few shows left, well worth the money!

I adored this production. It has been a long time since I have seen such an excellently acted, superbly directed piece of art. This piece was suspenseful, beautiful and masterfully acted. The effects (sound, lighting, and 'special') were wonderful and had our entire audience jumping and cringing. Ross Harkness and James Lucas were superbly paired and should work together much more often. Ambera DeLash as the woman in black was terrifying (though far too beautiful)! Angie Harkness did an amazing job with the staging and casting of this show. Any actor should consider it an honour to work with her. I highly suggest this show for anyone who enjoys a good scare and excellent theatre. If everyone invited me to make a show suggestion, this one would be it. Collapse

I attended this last Sunday's performance with a group of friends and had a lovely time. The two main actors carried the story quite masterfully, while the Lady in Black sent numerous chills down the audience's spine, appearing in the wings at the perfect moment. The lighting and sound created utterly beautiful, tingly moments that had us all wriggling in our chairs. The story ended with a truly touching moment, brining a tear to the eyes of many in the audience. I would highly recommend the show to any connoisseur of the arts. Collapse

It's hard not to be impressed by the skilled acting and staging that has gone into this production. The story, while not a thriller, did keep me engrossed and guessing what would happen next. Two actors play multiple roles in the production and work with each other to relate the events of a "dark and stormy night" in Northern England. As is always the case, the stage at Northside was simple but effective, even extending at times into the audience. Collapse

My husband and I attended this play with the idea of watching a suspenseful story. Instead, we ended up gazing at our watches with bordom. The acting and production were excellent, but the subject matter was an issue. There wasn't any meaningful story. By the intermission, the only suspense that we saw was a woman who came on the stage three times dressed in black. We decided to leave because of the plodding slowness. It's too bad, because the show was a great deal of work. Unfortunately, the raw goods (the play) was not worth it. Collapse

I wasn't sure what to expect from this "play about a marriage and a dog"--an offstage doggie presence? a very well-trained canine? For some reason, I didn't expect a dog portrayed by an actress...but that's what I got, and it only added to the fun of this nineties comedy examining what's really important in life. Thus comedy is a great way to start Northside's new season! Collapse
