Add Review/CommentThe Midsummer Mozart Festival was founded in 1975 by Maestro George Cleve and a regional consortium of classical musicians who recognized him as one of the world's great interpreters of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Now in its 34th season, this beloved Bay Area institution remains the only music festival in North America dedicated exclusively to Mozart, featuring international soloists as well as distinguished local artists, with a dedication to fresh and intelligent interpretation of the work of this most enduring and universally loved composer. The festival's mission embraces both performances of the highest artistic excellence, and cultivation of new audiences, including young people, to assure the future appreciation of great music, and the arts.
Program II: Serenade for Woodwinds and Contrabass in B-flat Major, K.361 “Gran Partitta” Piano Concerto No. 24 in c minor, K.491, Soloist: Nikolai Demidenko
Nikolai Demidenko’s passionate pianism means that he is in demand worldwide. A highlight of summer 2007 was his tour of Australia and New Zealand, while back in Europe he has performed in most European capitals as well as throughout the British Isles. Russian born and trained, he is proud to have been granted British Citizenship in 1995, having lived in the UK since 1990. He is renowned for his authoritative performances of the Russian concerto repertoire such as Prokofiev, Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky and has worked with many conductors and orchestras throughout the world. His repertoire is nonetheless wide-ranging including Bach, Clementi, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Mussorgsky and Scarlatti. He has a special affinity with the works of Chopin and will be traveling to Warsaw to perform at the Chopin & His Europe Festival in August 2008.
