Come celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the Fiestas Patrias Festival - Mexican Independence Day! The 16th of September is celebrated in San Jose with a downtown parade sponsored by the San Jose Mercury News and the San Jose Chapter of the American GI Forum dating back to 1983. The celebration commemorates Mexico's Independence and the event is often confused by US citizens with the Battle of Pueble, better known as Cinco de Mayo. Thousands of people come to the downtown area to view the floats, colorful costumes, marching bands, drill teams and assortment of decorated entries vying for first, second or third place as they march past the judges at the review Grandstand. This year's festival featuring 2 stages of continuous entertainment, special children's art & crafts section and multicultural food and drinks!
