NDNU’s dynamic and expanding Department of Theatre and Dance and the Performing Arts Company has offered The Gift to the community free of charge welcoming all to the 54-year-old landmark NDNU Theatre for the past 22 years. As the longest running musical version of A Christmas Carol in the San Francisco Bay Area.

It is estimated that more than 100,000 people have attended these performances. The Theatre Department was recently awarded the Peninsula Arts Council’s Diamond Award for 2007. The award honors individuals and organizations for their contributions to the arts in San Mateo County. All but the opening night performance is offered to the public free of charge. The opening night is the only performance for which tickets are sold. Proceeds from the single performance help fund the entire show. Dozens of Bay Area businesses and individuals support the annual event by donating goods, services, and funding.

Because of the current state of the economy, NDNU has decided to offer all General Admission tickets for only $10 and all student tickets (a local student ID card is needed) for only $1. We believe that everyone needs a chance to escape from reality, especially with laughter, so we want to make it easier for more people to come and enjoy our production. Collapse

Kudos to Michael Elkins, Debra Lambert, and Colleen Lorenz at Notre Dame de Namur. They have assembled one of the most enegetic and talented casts imaginable for their spring musical, "Fiddler on the Roof." Every role is well cast and the chemistry among the energetic young actors is truly uplifting despite the tragic circumstances that befall Tevye's family and the village of Anatevka. Mike Reed is a wonderful Tevye who captures the complexity of the role with great tenderness and depth. Julia Hosack is outstanding as his counterpart, Golde. She has a golden voice and brings truth and feeling to her role. Their five daughters are all strong actresses (especially exuberant in "Matchmaker") and solid dancers. Justin Nixon is a vocal powerhouse in the role of Motel and John Babin holds his own in a role that is vocally demanding. The ensemble is a delight to see and hear and the revolving sets add a nice touch to the effective staging. Mazel Tov to NDNU for an outstanding show! Collapse
