Come join us under the warm spring sky and stars for a wonderful night of cultural dance and music. This year's theme for our annual Ho'Ike is "Na Paniolo O Ka Pakipika" -the Cowboys of the Pacific. This year's ho`ike will pay special tribute to Hawai`i's legendary paniolo, Ikua Purdy. The performance is based in present day Hawai`i. Through storytelling from a grandmother, it tells of a schoolboy's journey back to the times of the first paniolo. Ficticious characters are used to help introduce the real-life Ikua Purdy, Eban Rawhide Ben" Low, Archie Ka`au`a and Jack Low. This story helps to incorporate our selected mele and hula into the performance as well as share with our audience an underlying lesson of mo`olelo (story) and the telling of stories, an essential part of the Hawaiian life-style. Pre-show entertainment includes: Shorebreak, jturtle, the Ladies of Ka Waikahe Lani Malie, and the Men of Kahulaliwai from Sacramento. Other pre-show activities include Hawaiian handicraft vendors, Keiki carnival games,Hawaiian-style plate lunches, and a raffle drawing. No outside food, drinks or coolers will be allowed. This outdoor venue has both lawn and limited chair seating. You may bring your own blankets and low lawn chairs, but please, no regular height chairs or tents that will block the view of others. There is limited seating available for elderly and handicapped persons requiring assistance.
