Manding Jata presents the performing arts and oral traditions of the Mali Empire, encompassing much of the region now known as West Africa, in The Manding Empire Revealed. The largest Empire in African history, its most celebrated city was the fabled Timbuktu. At the crossroads of Manding culture, Timbuktu drew together performers from across the Empire, generating a rarified level of creative vitality. Much of the Manding Jata repertoire comes from this golden era, between the 13th and 15th centuries.

This distinguished group of musicians, dancers and singers comes from Mali, The Gambia, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast and has performed for enthusiastic audiences around the world.

Since 1971, the Performing Arts for Youth Society (PAYS) Inc. has presented symphony, opera, theater and dance to the elementary and middle school students of San Mateo County and other nearby Bay Area communities. The goal of PAYS is to instill a love and appreciation of the performing arts in the students, inspire them to use their own creative abilities and appreciate those of the performers. By presenting programs of the highest quality, PAYS strives to enrich and enhance arts education in the schools and to build future audiences.
