    Dave Eggers will appear with KQED Public Radio’s Forum host Michael Krasny. Krasny will explore with Eggers the characters and themes of What Is the What. This event includes audience Q & A and book sales and signing by both Eggers and Krasny (Off Mike: A Memoir of Talk Radio and Literary Life). This is a Kick-Off Event for One Book One Community: San Mateo County Reads 2008.

    Born in Boston and raised outside Chicago, Eggers attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He began his writing career in the early 1990s as a contributing editor for Salon.com and as the founder of Might magazine in San Francisco. He has written several fiction and non-fiction books including A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (2000), You Shall Know Our Velocity! (2002), How We Are Hungry (2004) and What Is the What (2006). His writing has appeared in a variety of magazines including Zoetrope, Punk Planet, Esquire, The New Yorker and Spin. A skilled artist, Eggers has designed most of the books and quarterlies published by McSweeney's, a magazine and book-publishing company he founded in 1998 iin San Francisco.
