    Frustrated lovers, thwarted plans, delightful comedy, tragic drama, this opera “double bill” has it all! Excerpts from Mozart’s comic romance, Marriage of Figaro, are paired with California composer Hector Armienta’s bilingual opera about a woman in 1940's Texas who struggles against her culture's traditions and the spirit of the river as she pursues her dream for a better life. Anyone with Mexican roots will recognize the mythical Weeping Woman (La Llorona) in this orchestral premiere of River of Women.
