Review/Comment
This delightful musical is based on a true story about Patsy Cline’s friendship with Louise Seger, an avid fan from Houston, who befriended her and continued a correspondence with Patsy until the talented star’s untimely death. The musical includes many of Patsy’s unforgettable hits, including Crazy, I Fall to Pieces, Sweet Dreams, and Walkin’ After Midnight. The show’s title was inspired by Patsy’s letters to Louise, which were signed "Love Always…Patsy Cline.” This tribute centers on how her music affected the lives of simple people, who still find the country legend’s classics fresh and heartfelt today.

I grew up listening to Hank Williams and Patsy Cline on the radio. Watching Patsy on stage last night was a truly emotional rush of being back in that time. The incarnation of Patsy’s personality, love and warmth while performing was everything that I have heard and imagined. Best of all, that rich, powerful and emotional voice was Patsy, without a doubt, only she was right there in the room with us and not on the radio. A wonderful experience. Collapse

Being a weekend Cowboy and Country/Western lover of the music, I loved the show. I thought the the play was excellent. I enjoyed learning so much more about the relationship the 2 ladies had and how that relationship grew. The singing was good, wished she had a stronger voice but still very good. All in all I would come again and see it several more times and bring my friends. The venue is great, very intimate and inviting. Collapse

As usual, San Jose Stage outshines it's competition with a delightful presentation of 'Always..Patsy Cline'. Musical theater from SJS always seems to be the 'whipped cream' on a theatrical sundae. Up front, I am a long-term subscriber and have been 'in love' with Judith Miller since day one, but I not afraid to admit that something just may not be 'my cup of tea'. While no one will ever have the total voice comparison to Patsy Cline, this competent presentation can be enjoyed by all in vocal strength and presence. You may not always agree with the vehicle of choice, but SJS offerings have the conviction of quality theater in material and presentation. The niche they have carved out on the local theater scene is unique in quality and consistency. Stage is Stage is Stage, but SJS can grab you with it's ability to present good quality theater on an ongoing basis. If you are not familiar with SJS, I would encourage you to give them a chance to make an impression. Collapse

I never was much of a Country Music fan growing up but I remember PatsyCline and her hits "Crazy" and "Walking After Midnight" which were wonderful. This presentation was skillfully put together and the star was in good voice and the supporting character was just fun. If you want to capture good music and joy, see this Stage Production. Collapse

Patsy Cline...Always is a gem of a production, with outstanding music, singing and acting. The five piece combo sets the mood, and I could see toes (mine included) tapping to its rythmns. Patsy's songs are beautifully sung by Judith Miller and Marie Shell is so down to earth and funny you want to take her home with you--as she took Patsy when they first met. Collapse

My husband remarked that he thought it was the best show that he'd ever seen at SJ Stage! "Patsy" was great - wonderful voice - and "Louise" was the PERFECT counterpart. What an actress, and we loved her "jiggles." We were in an upbeat mood the rest of the day. Like Cumberland Blues, and Idols of the King, this production showcased music of the (somewhat) "recent" past" and it brought back the good memories of those younger days. Please do more of these. Being under 5' & with a child, I rather anticipated obstructions to our views, but well-staggared seats allowed us both to see and greatly enjoy the performance. It was easy to follow for my 9 yr old companion, and the music was fantastic. I was afraid that she might nod off (as it was a school nite), but she really got into it, as did I. Staff were all friendly and professional. No programs, but forgiveable considering how well all else went off. Looking forward to another good time in the near future. Collapse
