During El Salvador’s peasant uprising of 1932 the country’s military dictatorship slaughtered over 30,000 indigenous people. The genocidal reprisal created lasting consequences for the nation still felt today. In the film, Ama: The Memory of Time, the family of José Feliciano Ama, the leader of Nahua-Pipil indigenous peasants revolt, reflects on his role and subsequent execution. In an exclusive screening director Daniel Flores y Ascencio joins us for the film and a discussion exploring the life of José Feliciano Ama and the event that has become emblematic of the brutality and social amnesia linked to the struggles of the indigenous peoples of Central and South America.
