Add Review/CommentBack by popular demand, Music at the Mission welcomes the return of Quinteto Quilombo for an exciting exploration of the life and music of Astor Piazzolla. Fusing the tango music of his native Argentina with classical and jazz, Piazzolla created a genre all his own. Never wavering from his ideal, he spent five decades battling both skeptics from the classical world and purists from the tango world. This program will explore the intersections of Piazzolla’s contrasting worlds, ending with a set of his tangos performed in his original quintet instrumentation. Program will include Quintets by Astor Piazzolla and more.
Featured artists for this performance include: Seth Asarnow, Bandoneon; Ertan Torgul, Violin; Paul Binkley, Electric Guitar; Aileen Chanco, Piano; and Bill Everett, Double Bass.
