Presented by The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival's "Shakespeare on Tour," Romeo & Juliet provides an excellent introduction to Shakespeare and drama that can be appreciated on a variety of levels. The action of the story-line is easily understood and moves the plot forward quite readily. The motives of the characters are clear and many of the conflicts are as relevant today as they were in Shakespeare’s time.

The play can be viewed as a commentary on parent-child conflicts as well as an examination of prejudice. It can be used as a springboard for discussions about hostility, deception, and the consequences of faulty decision-making. It can be enjoyed for its swashbuckling action scenes or used as a review of classic dramatic elements such as fate, fortune, and the tragic hero.
