Jerry Sloan, a successful writer of advertising jingles, is married to Alice, a successful lawyer. Living with the happy couple is Alice’s not so happy father. The situation is exacerbated when Jerry's mother loses her house in a fire and needs a place to stay. This play is one hilarious confrontation after another!

This script is pretty bad. Dated, cliche, and a weird anti-agist moral comes out of nowhere in the last scene. I usually like Center Stage and will go back, but I don't know why they picked this one. The cast and director did a decent job with what they had. The bit players (nanny, neighbor, and gardener) are all great. I had a few good laughs, but I can't suggest it to others. I'll look forward to whatever Center Stage has going next instead. Collapse

I know that Center Stage Productions puts on good shows and "Squabbles" does not disappoint. The actors fully commit to bringing the lives of these characters onto the stage. They are quirky and obnoxious and annoying and lovable. This is funny and heart-warming. A perfect holiday show. I'm going again and bringing more friends. Collapse

I enjoyed the Gala opening performance. The play is fantastic - one of the most polished shows I've ever seen at CSL. Their delivery & timing is superb. Mildred is just a hoot, acting out the combative character, & the interaction between her & Abe is just priceless. Everyone played their character so well, even the stiff governess who doesn't even say anything! Collapse

I was lucky enough to see this show on opening night. I would call it a "do not miss!" Ray James as Abe Dreyfuss truly delights in every argument on the stage; his enjoyment is contagious. Vera Sloan and Mark Williams perform as a married couple as though they were actually married. Their relationship and timing are perfect! Marie Ballentine performs Mildred admirably as an opponent to Ray's Abe. Leslie Woods as the nanny is too small a character; I only wish there was more time to see her onstage! Melissa Tom's direction is easy going and inviting. You cannot help but know and love these characters by the time the show ends. The characters movement is fluid and the lights and sound blend with the production. My hat goes off to a great cast and an amazing show! I will definitely see it again! Collapse

I'm not an easy laugh, but found that the cast managed to tickle many hearty giggles from me despite the often cliché script. Marie Ballentine shines as the mother-in-law who wears every scrap of her emotion in her face and body movement. Ray James as her foible Abe is an irascible character who is very funny nonetheless. Jerry, played by Mark Williams, turns even the smallest actions into a gaggle of laughter, while Vera Sloan, playing his wife, underplays her role and seems to be the only normal person in the play. Bryan Martin, Steve Corelis and Leslie Woods all are very funny as supporting characters. My only complaint about the show occurs when the lights are snuffed out to simulate a power outage. The director would do well to shine some lights on the actors so we can see them. Luckily this scene is short, so it doesn't dry up the mirthful mood. All told, I recommend Squabbles. It's guaranteed to make you laugh, the seats are soft and there is ample parking at the venue. Collapse
