The Crucible, winner of the 1953 Tony Award for Best Play is a powerful drama about the 1692 Puritan purge of witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts. More than that, it is also a timely parable of our contemporary society. Arthur Miller wrote it in response to Senator McCarthy and the House Un-America Activities Committee's crusade against supposed communist sympathizers. Despite the obvious political criticisms contained within the play, most critics felt that The Crucible was a self contained play about a terrible period in American history.

The Crucible was wonderful! The set is minimalistic, but so appropriate for the show, as most productions of The Crucible I've seen are. Pretty much all the actors contributed to the true awesomeness of the whole story, because it is such an ensemble show. Quite professional! Yes, based on a few main people, but EVERYONE put their hearts into it. There are some AMAZING moments, (if you know the story) my favorites: the dance in the beginning was very simple but cool. When the girls call names of people who they "saw" with the Devil, parts of the courtroom scene (honestly, every version of that show, it can get a wee boring, but that's Arthur Miller for you)& of course the end. *Note: Use of fog machine, FYI for health reasons. Theater is kind of cold, bring a jacket! Great, classic piece of theater, go see it! Collapse
