Barbara Kossy’s digital photo murals do indeed reveal familiar places – in unanticipated ways. Each scene is digitally photographed, cut, pasted, reassembled, and composed in ways that challenge the viewer’s sense of space and location. This exhibition of Kossy’s work focuses on Bay Area landscapes and seascapes (she is also an avid sea kayaker). The coastline of the Fitzgerald Marine Preserve, near her home, is a favorite source of photographic inspiration and frustration.

Kossy specializes in 360-degree views of a chosen scene, using available light and letting her camera adjust its settings to the directional shifts. She takes more than 150 digital photos of a scene and assembles them in her computer to form image files which are then manipulated to produce the photo murals. The resulting crisp, high-resolution images can be up to 4 ft. x 11 ft.
