One of Shakespeare’s most sophisticated and bewitching comedies is full of many of his most memorable characters including the sardonic and lustful clown Touchstone, the melancholy philosopher Jacques, the love besotted Orlando and the Bard’s most brilliant and provocative heroine, Rosalind. To teach the man she desires how to love a woman, Rosalind must first disguise herself, and in the end changes the entire world around her. Artistic Director Rick Lombardo’s inaugural production will emphasize the transformative power of romantic love and nature’s force to heal the scars of political and technological oppression. The journey into the magical Forest of Arden – first touched by death and decay in late fall and then exploding with renewed color and life in spring – is itself a tale of the “ages of man.”

From the real Irish feel of the pub set, to the subtle but effective sound design, to the slice of life writing of the script, right on down to some of the best, most enjoyable and REAL performances I have seen in a long time, The Weir is a night of imersive storytelling that holds your attention nearly all of the 2 hours without intermission. Rare is is that you feel within 20 minutes of a play that you know these characters, and I found myself at many times smiling at how sucked in I was. As they draw a pint of beer on stage, the slight smell of guiness from patrons sitting near me,it made the experience all the more real. A warning that that Irish accents and slang are a bit heavy and take a while for the ear to get aquainted with, but 4 out of 5 of the actors were nearly fawless with their speech. You might leave a bit baffled by what the "point" of it all was, but in the end this moment of time, shared between some folks is well worth the ticket. Collapse

With Apartheid removed and Affirmative Action on the rise, this story places three individuals at a dramatic and dangerous collision point. Supurb acting enhances a great play.

3 actors, an AMAZING set, and a script that is topical, political, balanced, and tight. This play with no intermission has you agreeing and disagreeing all the way through and by the end the actors and playwright have done a solid job of showing you 3 very different perspectives. Get there early and read the production notes if you aren't familiar with the history of apartheid and the diamond industry, it will give you a nice history channel kind of background to help with the fact that this play has very little exposition. It jumps right in and dares you to take a side. Interesting and I feel important. Collapse

I'd seen this show once before a few years back and thought it was going to be impossible to match the talent I saw, but it's a strong ensemble and there was plenty of laughing! Collapse

The highlights were definitely the script, the set design (minimal, but very appropriate to the story), and the performance of James Carpenter (Pablo Picasso). I found the character of Miss Fischer (Carrie Paff) to be a little too severe and over the top in some scenes, but a great actress nonetheless. James Carpenter as Picasso showed incredible diversity in moods and intensity. Collapse

It never ceases to amaze me the way a few technical tricks can really set a tone of magic and whimsy for a show. This was a GREAT journey, a wonderful production with some fantastic talent working with a killer script! What a fun night. Really, I was GRINNING and laughing out loud and even at 33, having been involved on and backstage all my life, found myself amazed with the absolute genius of the set design. That and the transformations from character to character were phenomenal. Do yourself a favor and don't miss this one please. Great for kids over 8 I'd say, the language is a bit of a challenge, lots of accents but I think over 8 with all the visual fun, it would be quite enjoyable for the whole family! Collapse
