To commemorate Felix Mendelssohn’s extraordinary life and artistic achievements on the two-hundredth anniversary of his birth, Music@Menlo’s 2009 festival presents the composer’s greatest chamber works, including his seminal string quartet cycle, the two magnificent piano trios, and the immortal Octet (composed when Mendelssohn was only sixteen years old), among other works—acknowledged masterpieces and rediscovered gems alike. By presenting Mendelssohn’s music alongside works by his predecessors, contemporaries, and artistic heirs, Being Mendelssohn illuminates the composer’s deeply personal and richly nuanced art from multiple perspectives.

2009 Prelude Performances and Koret Young Performers Concerts

The rigorous training program for young artists offered by the Chamber Music Institute culminates in the festival’s series of Prelude Performances and Koret Young Performers Concerts. These outstanding preconcert recitals, performed by the extraordinary Institute musicians, continue to garner enthusiastic acclaim from audiences and critics alike.

Prelude Performances, featuring the International Program artists, and Koret Young Performers Concerts, featuring students in the Young Performers Program, are free and open to the public, offering an ideal setting for new listeners and young audiences to discover great music and join in the festival experience.

Please note: Due to overwhelming demand, a free seat pass is now required for all Prelude Performances and Koret Young Performers Concerts. One seat pass per person can be requested at the will-call table beginning one hour prior to the start of the performance. Seat passes cannot be reserved in advance, and seating is by general admission.
