The East Gallery will present an exhibition by Kathleen de Rosas and Eric Larson. Last year, these two artists were selected for Exhibition Awards by 2008 juror Scott Shields. Unique sensibilities and unusual approaches are prevalent in the work of both of these exciting new artists.

Ms. de Rosas’ sculpture/installations explore vulnerability through working with the vessel and the human form. Using various sensuous materials, dirt, beeswax, clay, thread, string, and plaster, she expresses a vast geography concerned with openness, ecstatic moments, and pain. Her juxtaposition of the human form and natural materials creates a momentary, gentle stillness in which viewers may pause and rest.

Eric Larson is a San Francisco artist who received his MFA from California College of the Arts in 2004. He works primarily in painting, sculpture, and installation. His mixed media works often reflect a dizzying fascination with geometry, which he renders in such a way that the viewer is unavoidably drawn into the work. He has exhibited his work throughout the Bay Area.

Extremely enjoyed the show. Was impressed by the amount of time and effort put into the show. Amazed at the professionalism and what can be done with photographs.

With 64 Artists, refreshments, live music, art auction and art demonstrations, this is one of the more action-packed and fun Open Studio events in the Bay Area. Although it is billed as "Pacifica Open Studios", artists from around the peninsula and bay also set up in the spacious galleries so there is plenty of variety and beautiful art for every budget. This Open Studios is the ideal size with lots to see but not an overwhelming number of artists so that it wears you out trying to see them all. Last year's event was a huge success, and this year promises to be even better. There is lots of parking at the Center and when things get really hopping you can find parking on Linda Mar Blvd. On Saturday and Sunday Open Studios are free and open to the public from 11am to 5pm. The Preview Gala on Friday, from 7pm - 9pm, costs $25 and is a benefit for the Sanchez Art Center. Collapse
