This 4th of July, the Department of Parks and Recreation invites you to enjoy a good old fashioned picnic at Baylands Park. There are picnic sites with extra-large barbecue grills, electricity and water, layout tables, shade structures, and cans and bottles recycling containers. Play structures and restrooms are nearby. Rock Lerum, a veteran performer at the Hands On the Arts Festival, will be roving the picnic areas as a stilt walker and juggler. The Fun on the Run vehicle will also be onsite to provide games and activities for elementary school-aged children. To protect wildlife, pets are not allowed in the park.

It was a fantastic first part with the peace dance very beautiful (our favorite) and then before intermission the more stereotypical fast grass skirted dance. Wish I could have described it better than (would have been nice to have more background info - continuity issue?). It was amazing well danced and choreograph with serious attempt to honor the Hawaiin traditions & culture. 2nd half more an unexpected dance to a Shakira song and then Mahealani's search for her roots: Cherokee, African & Hawaii. First 1/2 before intermisssion with the Cheifs Dance included tribute to our Hawaiin born Obama - was worthy of presentation at the White House. 2nd Half was a more community level presentation. Where were the male dancers?? Sacred Music festival had a power packed male dance.Music & drumming & singers wonderful, well worth it. Definitely something new to the SVale Rec & Arts venue straight from the Island of Berkeley. Good dose of good! Collapse
