Blithe Spirit
March 11-April 9, 2005
Escape into the crazy world of a seemingly well-mannered British couple whose decision to entertain a local flake named Madame Arcate changes their lives forever. This play was Sir Noel Coward's gift of laughter to his countrymen during the darkest days of World War II and the Blitz and is regarded by many as Coward's finest work.

I see a lot of regional theater and it's hit or miss. I didn't know what to expect with this show but I was so happily surprised! It was a romp and a complete delight. I thought the physical comedy was well staged and executed (the first reviewer must have seen an off night?)The cast worked very well together - all very funny and talented. If you are looking for something fun and entertaining...see this show! Collapse

First, I should state that I very much admire the people who volunteer to staff and produce small-scale local theater. I don't have the guts to do what they do, and so I am hesitant to criticize. But in the case of Incorruptible, the characters were just too over-the-top, and the physical comedy was sloppy. Come intermission, my friend looked over to me and asked "Do you want to stay for the rest of this?" at which point we both got up and walked quietly out. Collapse

Saw the show last night and quite enjoyed so much of it. The script takes a while to unfold, but by Act 2 the audience was howling with laughter at these monks who are REALLY up to no good! All the actors did a good to really fine job. Todd Wright never disappoints and I was glad to see the "growth" Jonathan Murphy is making in his acting. I was particularly impressed by the lead actor, Jim (sorry, can't remember his last name), as he hit all the rights notes in his wacky character (can you say, "SUBTEXT!?" It was there!). I need to see more of his work! It was a fun night out at the quaint little theatre at the top of the stairs! Collapse

Great performances and creative blocking with super lighting effect makes this a very different and intersting procduction. Certainly the challenge is in the adaptation not the presentation and it certainly is visually and mentally engaging...it might not be your thing, but literary types for sure will enjoy this gothic retelling! Having served as foreman on a jury a few years back I was excited to see this play. It's a great character study, exciting to have 12 men in one room all talking. Though I think we are a bit spoiled by the CSI and Law and Order detailed writing, and I felt I was a step ahead of most of these guys, it was really great concept and well executed. There are a surprising number of laughs in this as well as your 1950's dick tracy kind of drama. Worth a see, espcially if you haven't visited this lovely intimate theatre! Collapse

My wife, young teen daughter and I braved last Friday night's rush hour traffic to catch Greater Tuna at Broadway West in Fremont. If you have a chance to come over this way, try to see the latest and I believe zaniest production ever by this wonderful small Theatre company! It was certainly the best comedy I've seen them produce. The two actors (Todd Wright and Robin Dunn) are superbly balanced and handled the numerous character changes and hilarious costume juggling beautifully. Kudos to Directors Jim Woodbury and Mary Galde for spicing up this already colorful and somewhat controversial script. If you haven't experienced a show at this tiny Theatre before, you're in for a rare treat: you can bring a warm coffee to your seat and enjoy the antique ambience of one of the oldest brick buildings in the city while watching this highly spirited show. Anyone needing a good belly laugh and a distraction from the stresses of the season should come on up and enjoy this happy, feel good show. Collapse

It's been quite a while since I laughed this much in the theater. One person playing 36 parts would seem on the surface to be difficult, but Troy Johnson makes it seem so easy. Not only does he jump from character to character, but each one has a different accent/dialect AND unique mannerisms. And Troy never skips a beat; the changes from one to another are NOT slow but his timing and execution are excellent. This is a show you have got to see if you are looking for a lot of laughs. And it resolves nicely at the end. Paula and Mary (the Directors) deserve a lot of credit for this one as do the techies. This play ran flawlessly and hilariously. (And the young lady cutting up tickets did a great job, too). Don't miss this one! Collapse

this theater is perfect for this story about life in the changing south in the years between 1948 and 1972. the stage production is more fun than the film and the cast three people. Mary Galde as Daisy creates a loveable sympathatic lady fighting to keep her independence, hoke played by Steve Randolph is proud, kindly, and wise in ways that keeps him going is a world where he is a second tier citizen. Boolie played by Ray Medved daisy son and hoke's boss adds balance to the story and together they all shine. the actors take advantage of the humor in the charaters and the events that make the audience laugh and cry out loud and exit with a warm feeling of an evening well spent. Driving Miss Daisy is a event worth the price and the time. Collapse
