Multi-award winning Foothill Music Theatre presents the most highly awarded show in Broadway history, Mel Brooks' The Producers, the Musical, winner of 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The Producers follows two theater producers who plan to get rich quick by overselling investments in a Broadway show that’s a sure-fire flop: a sentimental ode to Der Furher, Springtime for Hitler! But before they know it, their goose-stepping should-be disaster becomes an unforeseeable megahit, “heiled” by all.

Now I must see the movie, to see if it can match the quality of this stage show. The cast bubbles with dance and singing talent. Each production number is delivered with zip and punch, with every ensemble member giving a top notch performance. There is no let up as the singing, dances, sight gags, and Mel Brooks humor keep coming at you with outstanding costumes on imaginative sets. Gary de Mattei as Max Bialystock, Tim Reynolds as Leo Bloom, and Brittany Ogle as the beautiful Ulla give outstanding performances in these lead roles. Supporting roles are delivered with the same pizzazz. Ray Joseph as Roger DeBris, "the world's worst director," and Sean Patrick Murtagh as his gay assistant Carmen Ghia are a perfect pair. Murtagh brings roars of laughter with his gestures and slinky body movements, and more laughter when he speaks. Joseph's Roger DeBris builds on the gay theme and brings the house down when he "fills in" as the singing-dancing star of Springtime for Hitler. Don’t miss it. Collapse

We laughed from beginning to end - this is classic Mel Brooks, and Foothill Music Theatre do a great job. The acting, singing, orchestra, sets, costumes and production are excellent. Outrageously funny - though not suitable for kids - it's just Mel Brooks at his best. Definitely well worth seeing! Collapse

FMT's The Producers is a loud, shameless, brazen love letter to musical theater, and anybody who likes the form had better get tickets fast and bring a friend. The mean-spiritedness of the movie version is here triumphantly overridden by the skill, style, and exuberance of the cast. Singing and acting are at FMT's usual high levels, and the dancing is the best I've sen there, with barely a trace of tentativeness. Gary De Mattei (Max Bialystock) and Tim Reynolds (Leo Bloom) pull off their demanding roles like two knights on quest, and by evening's end, every dragon in their way is skewered, slain, and turned into luggage. That said, the show gets a lift every time Sean Patrick Murphy (Carmen Ghia) and Ray Joseph (Roger Debris) are anywhere in the vicinity. Barbara Heninger makes Ulla, the most bogus Swede in literature, sweet and charming as well as brassy. One could say more, but space forbids. Go. Just go. Collapse

Those remembering the original Zero Mostel/Gene Wilder movie, or the latest venture by Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick will not be disappointed. Foothill Music Theatre with impeccable casting, gorgeous costumes, precise singing and orchestration, extraordinary use of as much of the stage as possible, great sets again brings Broadway level theatre, at most affordable prices, to all of us in the Bay Area. Director Jay Manley has outdone himself again with this production, and proves once again why we anxiously await his two annual productions. The crisp direction and the seamless fades from scene to scene will have you hooting for more. The costuming by Janice Bergman will remind you why glitzy can be breath taking; many kudos to her and her team. The biggest surprise for me was the casting of local Tim Reynolds as Leo Bloom, the neurotic public accountant. He demonstarated his abilities as a triple threat song and dance man, as well as comedic foil to the AEA lead. SEE THIS! Collapse
