    "YO SOY EL CORRIDO" is presented by el pueblo (the people) without pens or paper but from the heart. The storytelling songs (corridos) are colossal monologues depicting a people discovering itself through the open line of poetry. ATZLAN DANCE TROUPE and interpreter Carmencristina Moreno will offer a wholehearted rendition of famous Corridos Mexicanos. About the Aztlan Academy With more than 35 years teaching and performing the Mexican folk arts, Aztlan Academy—San Jose is a nonprofit cultural entity dedicated to the advancement of Mexican and Chicano folk arts, including arts, music, dance, literature and drama. Since its origins during the Grape Strike in the agricultural fields of California’s Tulare County, Aztlan Academy has been a vital catalyst for unique artistic excellence. This production is part of the 11th Downtown Arts Series, sponsored by the City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs and San Jose Stage Company.
