    Firebird Youth Chinese Orchestra (FYCO) presents solo and ensemble works including "Send Me a Rose," a solo for di (bamboo flute); Ambush from Ten Sides," a solo for pipa (lute); and "Why Are the Flowers So Red," a trio for zhong-hu (two-stringed viola), yang-qin (dulcimer) and da-ruan (four-stringed guitar). Firebird Youth Chinese Orchestra (FYCO) is made up of musicians age 9-18 who play Chinese instruments. Many of these young musicians have received recognition and awards for their performance and participation in community cultural events. FYCO’s purpose is to enhance cultural diversity and richness within the community by promoting the integration of Chinese and American cultural and musical heritages. This production is part of the 11th Downtown Arts Series, sponsored by the City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs and San Jose Stage Company.
