sjDANCEco, San Jose's newest Dance organization announces the premiere performance series by its newly formed company of artists. Under the Direction of Co - Artistic Directors Maria Basile and Gary Masters the company will present five premieres, one by each of the directors and one each by choreographer/dancers Heather Cooper, Carlos Gonzalez and Jeannine Vogt. Ms. Basile's full company work titled "Elements" has an original score for Chinese harp by Junzhi (Ginger) Cui which will be played live during the series. The piece explores the elements of earth, water and air (flight). The music of Michael Nyman and the choreographic tool of contact improve are the inspirations for Ms. Cooper "Untitled" work for herself, Ms. Vogt and Mr. Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzalez has choreographed a solo for himself which is a dedication to former Limon Dance Company dancer Carlos Orta who died suddenly last May. The work is set to the music of the Spanish Baroque period. "Shadows of Being", the offering by Mr. Masters, is a homage to loved ones who have left our realm but continue to inspire and guide our lives. A full company work it incorporates vocal music of Handel, Vivaldi and Gluck. Inspired by sculpture, Ms. Vogt's "Uncarved" quartet uses Polish folk music to reveal the relationship between human form and statue. Location: SJSU's Studio Dance Theater, 1 Washington Square, San Jose CA
