In this salute to the great Big Bands, the California Pops Orchestra performs hit music from the 1930's and beyond. This show has become a traditional audience favorite, with the nineteen-piece big band joining the sixty-piece symphony orchestra on stage. Joining Conductor Kim Venaas and the Pops are special guests The Black Tie Jazz Orchestra, the amazing stride pianist Frederick Hodges and singer Ann Gibson.

The California Pops Orchestra is the nation's only all-request symphony orchestra, and all the tunes in the show are audience requests from throughout the season. The exciting program includes tunes made famous by greats such as Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, Harry James and Count Basie. The songs include Jumpin' at the Woodside, Jersey Bounce, In The Mood, Leap Frog and Moonlight Serenade.

Adding a new dimension to this Big Band show are special arrangements by Grammy winners Quincy Jones, Maynard Ferguson and Sammy Nestico. These arrangements highlight the Pops' sizzling brass and sax sections.

If your kids have never heard this terrific music in person, now is the chance! It's great live music for the whole family!
