This production of Arclight Rep is like nothing I've ever seen before. It was moving and funny and it made you think. The singing by Melissa Locsin is entertaining and Brian Rivera really shows two sides of the same character. I recommend a person from any background to come see it. You learn specifics to Korean background, but I think it applies to just about any immigrant story. This is a Must See! Collapse

The show is longer then I would have liked but I am not sure what I would have cut out. This was my introduction to Arclight and it certainly will not be my last. Collapse

I have mostly enjoyed Arclight's productions, and this one stands out as one of their best. The actors (especially the woman playing Soon) are great. The way they have to transform into different characters works very well because of their talent. The start of the second act is hilarious. I highly recommend this show to everyone! Collapse

Spent my Valentine's Day afternoon seeing world premiere of Persimmons in Winter by Vivian Sung Soon Keh, and I fell in love. I'd never seen something by Arclight Rep here in San Jose before but won't miss anything in the future. This story about two Korean sisters who relocated to LA spans the Japanese occupation of Korea, the civil war that divided the country and the sisters assimilation into U.S. The dynamite seven-member acting ensemble play several parts, and the two sisters are portrayed by actresses that transform back and forth from young girls to women in their twilight years. This theater company takes its constraints and turns them into theatrical gold. My fellow San Joseans, go see this while you can. It will make you think you are living in an actual city with something original to show for itself. Collapse

I enjoyed this show...Would have loved it if it were 30 minutes shorter. Acting was very good - two lead women were great. The play is episodic, moving back and forth through time. The actresses' ability to age and "unage" was impressive. The direction like the play could have been a lot tighter. Example: no need for distracting slides and poetry on screen behind the scenes...And curtain call was way too long. Still, there were some moving moments and interesting stories about the Korean-American immigrant experience. I'd recommend it, especially to Asian-Americans. Collapse
