Simcha... A Chanukah Celebration and Bazaar
December 19, 2009
This is a one-night-only encore performance of a magnificent dance show, a unique and joyful event for the whole family, just in time for Chanukah! Experience Simcha, the story of a Jewish family’s journey that spans continents and generations, from a small Jewish village — a shtetl — in Europe, to the bustling streets of New York.
Inspired by the stories of Sholom Aleichem, this humorous and touching tale is a rich tapestry of Jewish tradition, woven with music and dance. Be prepared to rejoice and remember. Join in celebrating all that is best in life... family, tradition, warmth, and love.
Arrive early for a festive Chanukah Bazaar! Before the show begins, you will find yourself immersed in a small and charming shtetl from years long gone by. In this shtetl, you’ll stumble upon the local market, bustling with Chanukah cheer, beautiful crafts, delectable treats, and wonderful wares. Don’t miss this holiday celebration!

Well, most dance does not have dialog, that would be generally called a musical or lyric (light) opera of which there are several good local companies (like PYT, CMT and SJ Lyric Theatre). Actually, this is not a typical Russian dance school, it is an experienced Russian dance company which has toured internationally that has incorporated its next generation talent from its school into a reasonable show. Their previous two shows used less younger talent and were thus more polished. This company has excellent costumes, creative set designs and exciting music. When compared to our wonderfully varied suite of local talant, this is a pretty good high energy dance company. Collapse

"Agree with Jason"

Sorry, didn't want to bash, but have to side with Jason. Also, my kids were disappointed about this being just a dance show, we though there will be some dialogues/singing.

Typical russian dance school recital wanting to be a show. Cute kids though. All the positive reviews are probably written by the lil' dancers' parents.

I watched the show with a bated breath... The the atmosphere of sofisticated New York life in winter of the 50th was geniously performed through silhouette design of black and white movie; the picturesque scenes of a shtetl life was recreated in literally Chagall's pallete of colors! There is a scene in a show when a BRIDE under her long white veil dances with her groom at the wedding. They stop, look at each other, - the scene is lit with blue light! It looked like a real Chagall's "Bride"! The loving couple dance, and it seems like next moment they will fly into the sky! Collapse

I loved it! The show is very touching and emotional. Costumes and Sets were superb. Unexpectedly and as a bonus we started feeling the Holidays thanks to the snow theme in the second part. I think every old person in the audience cried happy tears. This show was very personal to me and I could relate to every minute of it. Oh, and it's timed perfectly so that children did not get tired. Collapse
