Dresden was the leading musical center of northern and central Germany during the seventeenth century. Both Michael Praetorius and Heinrich Schütz were employed at the court, while other composers - notably Johann Hermann Schein and Samuel Scheidt - had close ties with the musical life there.

This program features intricate Renaissance polyphony, works for small ensemble, and splendid double choruses in a richly varied musical recreation of a Vespers service during the Advent season.
