Under the direction of Foothill Drama Instructor Tom Gough of Santa Clara, The Children’s Hour is the story of the enterprising partnership of Karen Wright and Martha Dobie. The women run a small, private boarding school for girls in provincial New England. After eight years of operation, the women’s hard work pays off as the school reaches a point of self-sufficiency. But one student who is facing a disciplinary incident fabricates a complicated lie and tells her influential grandmother. Believing she is righteously justified by her granddaughter’s private testimony, Mrs. Tilford spreads the rumor to the other parents, who then remove their children from the school. The fallout of this incident has palpable effects on the lives of many and is a strong legacy to the power of a child’s simple lie. The Children’s Hour features Heather Galli of Belmont; Dina Mirsalis of Emerald Hills; Marissa Zappas of Menlo Park; Helena Clarkson, Brittany Heideman, Annie Fox and Alissa Q. Newman of Palo Alto; Jaime McFaden and Jake Joseph of Redwood City; Kate McKnight of San Bruno; Valerie Curiel of San Jose; Carolyn Ford Compton of San Mateo; Kimberly Roberts, Jessica Salens, Christian Thomas and Linda Christensen of Sunnyvale. The show includes set designs by Joe Ragey of Sunnyvale; costume design by Julie Engelbrecht of San Jose; and stage management by Corina Galano of Sunnyvale.
