    Guest Conductor David Andre with music by Barber, Beethoven, Sviridov and Verdi. California native David André began his music studies at age five. He has a BA from San Francisco State University and master and doctoral degrees from the University of Washington. Starting as a contrabassist with the Seattle Symphony, he later served as principal of that section in the San Jose Symphony, as chair of the Cabrillo College music department, and also assistant conductor for the internationally acclaimed Cabrillo Music Festival. A finalist in the Georg Solti Conducting Competition in 1972, he later was music director for the symphony orchestras of Everett (WA) and Maui (Hawaii), and toured China with the Port Angeles (WA) symphony in 1985. Mr. André became music director of the Tulare County Symphony in 1985, and in 1992 was designated "American Cultural Specialist" by the U.S. State Department. Since then he has traveled the world each year as guest conductor of major symphony orchestras in Moscow, Vienna, St. Petersburg, Prague, Budapest, Kiev, Minsk, Sofia, and other cities.
