Five daughters to marry off! Oh, Mrs. Bennet, whatever will you do? Mr. Darcy, rich and tempting, is the greatest catch of the eighteenth century. And though her sisters adore him, Elizabeth will have nothing to do with him. Elaborate balls, hunting parties, and the trading of witticisms and smoldering looks propel Darcy and Elizabeth toward the altar on their bumpy ride to undo his pride and her prejudice. One of the world’s greatest classics, Jane Austen’s marvelously smart and romantic tale is transformed for the stage! Reflecting on the complex world of the wealthy and “less fortunate”—and how prejudice lives in us all—Austen’s eternally modern story proves that the game of love, marriage and property never goes out of date.

The creative movement and fluid scene transistions were the stars of this show. Extremely clever set design in an almost minimalist and quasi avant garde way made this a very interesting and new adaptation of the much loved piece. It took a bit of getting used to the exposition, and double casting of roles, but in general it kept my attention. Lots of humor and it kept to the literary roots and the time period well. I didn't find the acting to be stellar, but it was certainly enjoyable and a few performances did stand out. All in all, I was impressed with the execution of the visual concepts and the commitment to it. The directors vision was clear and worked in the space. Certainly one of the better shows I have seen at the Rep. Collapse
