Join WVLO for this musical comedy based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Princess and the Pea, a fairy tale with wit, sophistication and human feeling. Set in the fifteenth century and carried on a wave of wonderfully romantic and melodic songs, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance, introduced a new Broadway star by the name of Carol Burnett when it opened in 1959 and a new production of this delightful musical opened on Broadway in December, 1996, starring Sarah Jessica Parker. This is a show for the entire family with memorable songs including, Shy, In a Little While, Happily Ever After, and Normandy.

I thought this show was well rehearsed and put together in a wonderful way! What talent! The comedic timing was spot on and I really enjoyed each scene. It's a "must see!"

"A Lumpy, Bumpy "Mattress""

This production of "Mattress" has a lot going for it - Carly Honfi as a hilarious and entertaining (tap dancing!) jester, a strong Winnifred, an ably meek Ian Teter as Dauntless, and a beautifully voiced Elizabeth O'Hara as Lady Larkin. However, despite the talent, this show fails to come together as an integrated whole. The cast doesn't sell the schtick in a way that is credible, and leaves the audience wondering if the characters on stage are real or simply overacted caricatures. There are no clean buttons on the numbers, resulting in awkward scene changes and clumsy transitions. After a while, the plot gets so convoluted, one wonders what is driving things forward and, more importantly, why it takes three hours to get to the relatively simple conclusion of this fractured fairy tale. The attempt to "modernize" this show is not very successful, but Director Hicks should be commended for trying to "fluff up" this outdated and bumpy "Mattress." Collapse

"Terrible free-style..."

This show seemed to be a very disapointing show to me. It was very "improved" and "free". It was extremely cheesy. I was very disapointed and felt let down.
