"West Valley's "Mame""
Review posted by: April M. from Mountain View, CA USA, Jul 02, 2006
I enjoyed Mame quite a lot. Leslie Hardy-Tamel does a wonderful job as the title character. The woman who plays her friend, Vera, is a joy to watch. The costuming is very good, too. Have fun!

"WVLO's "MAME" in need of a facelift"

Mame is a challenge for any theatre company to tackle, and WVLO does its best to present an entertaining show. Excellent casting and direction by Doug Baird. Leslie Hardy Tamel is captivating as Mame, Ruth Mullins does Vera justice, and Molly Carter is a hoot as Gooch. The large supporting cast works hard in multiple roles and is generally convincing. At its heart, Mame is a dance showcase and this is where WVLO's production falls flat. The uninspired choreography is uniformly boring and never reaches the climatic heights it should. Instead of raising the roof, the simple and staid dances slow down the show's pace and make this show look messy and unrehearsed. The orchestra has rough spots and the set could use a facelift. But Judy Pincus's elegant and stunning costumes and Mike Munoz's dramatic lighting make up for it. Overall, this Mame has its moments and kudos should be given to the staff and cast for giving this show a decent effort. Collapse
